Why is a dummy ticket or flight reservation required for a Schengen visa?

When you apply for a Schengen visa, you will be asked to provide a list of required documents:

1.         Passport

2.         Photographs

3.         Proof of legal residence

4.         Travel insurance

5.         Return flight reservation

6.         Proof of accommodation

7.         Proof of funds

The above documents are standard for everyone and no matter why you wish to travel to the Schengen area, you will have to provide proof that you have a Flight Itineraryor Reservation. There are 3 main reasons why this is:

1) Proof that you won’t overstay:

The embassy of consulate of the country you plan to visit needs to see proof that you do not plan to overstay or remain illegally in the country you are going to. They will be able to see your date of entry and when you plan to leave the Schengen area. By providing a flight reservation, there will be

more chance that your visa application will be approved.

2) The embassy can decide on the start and end dates of the visa:

Based on the dates provided by you and the dates that show on the flight reservation/itinerary, the embassy will decide the start and end dates of the visa. Your DummyTicket or Flight Reservation for Schengen Visa will show a date when you plan to leave the Schengen area, so this would be the date that your visa would expire. It’s very important that you ensure the dates you have given in all of the documents that you provide match. If they don’t, this could lead to your application being rejected.

3) To ensure you are applying at the correct visa office:

The Flight Reservation For Visa specifies the country or countries you are planning onvisiting, so the embassy or consulate can be sure if you are applying at the correct office. For example, if you are going to Italy and then onto France, you need to apply at the Italian embassy or consulate in your area.

The European Commission states:

“You must lodge the application for a Schengen visa at the Consulate of the country that you intend to visit, or – if you intend to visit more than one Schengen State, the Consulate of the country where you will spend the longest period.

If you intend to visit several Schengen States and the stays will be of equal length, you must apply at the Consulate of the country whose external borders you will cross first when entering the Schengen area.”

What is Schengen Visa travel insurance? What are the requirements?

One major requirement to have your Schengen visa approve is to submit and purchase a Schengen visa travel insurance.Without this, your application won’t be accepted. While it’s pretty easy to get one, there are a lot of things you should consider before jumping blindly on any travel insurance. Because the embassies and the Schengen states are very specific with the requirements when it comes to your travel insurance.

Schengen travel insurance for visapolicies can cover medical needs, cancellation or trip interruption, accidents, passport or baggage loss. … It covers you in case any medical facility is required in the Schengen countries and also in case of cancellations, or loss of baggage and passport.

I have applied to three Schengen visas and all of them were approved. Finding a travel insurance for Schengen visa is pretty easy but it’s also must research properly to make sure that you meet the requirements.

In this article, I will go through the in-depth discussion of everything you need to know before purchasing your travel insurance for a Schengen visa regardless where you are from.

SCHENGEN TRAVEL INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS

The European Union made a very clear and strict guideline for the acceptable travel insurance that an applicant should have. It is a major requirement for the application of the Schengen tourist visa. Here is the coverage that your insurance must have:

•  coverage of costs as a result of medical repatriation, emergency and hospital treatment, or death

•   coverage must be valid in the entire territory of Schengen area

•   it must cover the whole period of your stay in the Schengen area

•   coverage must be at least 30,000 euros or equivalent in this amount.

REMEMBER: For those applicants who want to apply for the multiple entries, you only need to prove a travel insurance on the first trip. But when you enter on the second or the coming trips, you will berequired to show a travel insurance.

What is Hotel Booking or Proof of Accommodation for visa application?

A hotelbooking document for the visa application is also a mandatory document. It entails information that the applicant has booked to avail services in the host nation.

A hotel reservation, or other proof of accommodation is required as part of the Schengen visa process.

Arisen by the Regulation (EC) No 810/2009 of The European Parliament and of The Council of 13 July 2009, establishing a Community Code on Visas known as “Visa Code”, Hotel Booking/Proof of Accommodation is a rule of the visa application procedure that each Schengen country ought to apply to their foreign visa seekers.

HotelBooking for Schengen visa application or Proof of Accommodation falls under the list of supporting documents for a Schengen Visa. This piece of document is demanded by the staffers of diplomatic offices to determine that the applicant has accommodation sorted in the destined Schengen country.

This document assures embassies or consulates that applicant is able to sustain himself during the course of his stay in the Schengen Area. Furthermore, Proof of Accommodation also enables diplomatic staffers to determine the applicant’s travel dates and duration of his stay. If the applicant is planning to spend 15 days in the Schengen Area, then he must be able to show that he has accommodation for the aforesaid duration.

The embassies or consulates of Schengen countries testify this through following pieces of documents:

Invitation letter: A formal letter issued by the relatives or friends of the applicant residing in the Schengen Area and attested by the local authorities.

Proof of accommodation: Proof regarding the place of stay. This includes Hotel Booking or Reservation.

In the case of a tourist visa, a visa applicant needs to provide the details of a pre-paid tour along with details of payments to the tour operator.

What is A travel itinerary for Schengen visa?

Travel itinerary for a Schengen Visa Application is a planned flight schedule and provides details such as travel dates and flight times. It has a unique reservation ID(PNR) or code just like actual flight tickets.

Travel reservation is a confirmation of thetype of accommodation held by a passenger on a flight.

Once you have decided when and where you want to go and with which air carrier, you will have to purchase your ticket and check in on time to guarantee a place on board the flight. However, these measures will not prevent you from being denied boarding due to overbooking (bumped).

Some fares offered by air carriers will allow you to make a reservation and hold a space on board a flight for a specified period without payment to allow you to make a decision to travel or not. If you have not provided the air carrier with an indication of your intent to travel within the specified period, the air carrier will cancel your reservation. A carrier is not legally obligated to transport you until the ticket has been paid in full and issued.

Once your ticket is paid in full and issued, your travel agent or air carrier may provide you with a travel itinerary for Schengen visa and receipt that confirms essential details about your trip, including your ticket number and some references to certain travel-related information found in the carrier’s tariff.

Travel agents are an excellent source of information

– not just for seat sales, but they can also help in arranging hotel and resort accommodations, ground transportation and tour packages. They can also provide some assistance with insurance, passport and visa applications, and information on immunization and other foreign travel requirements.

A dummy flight ticket is basically a temporary hold ticket with a valid PNR while a fake flight ticket does not have both PNR and e-ticket number.

Now we have understood what are dummy flight tickets and how are they different from fake or actual tickets.

Are they accepted for Schengen visa applications?

Yes, Dummy flight tickets or reservation are officially accepted for Schengen visa application, however, some countries within Schengen zone where you are applying your visa, may require you to furnish actual flight confirmed reservation, so it is very important to select the right itinerary and right embassy at the same time.

Some examples of countries among Schengen area accepting dummy or temporary hold flight booking.

1.         Finland: officially ask for Travel plan/Itinerary, so a dummy ticket would suffice that.

2.         France: officially ask for Reservation of a return ticket or travel itinerary, dummy tickets work here.

3.         Estonia: officially mentions that tickets should be bought only after visa has been issued.

4.         Luxembourg: officially mentions either reservation or tickets. (so, hold ticket reservation works)

5.         Netherlands: specifically mentions they don’t need a ticket (dummy flight ticket works)

Can I change my itinerary and hotel reservation after getting a Schengen visa?

You can definitely switch hotels or make some small changes to your itinerary. This should not invalidate your visa (but see Andre’s answer regarding some questionable practice by some Schengen countries). Going to a different country could be slightly more risky but it’s still generally possible.

“Visa officers sometimes verify whether hotel reservation has been canceled after the visa has been issued. However, it has been duly noted that you will probably change your bookings, so all is in order.”

I would also recommend you to contact the visa issuing embassy and inform them about your new itinerary.

Specifically, the rules are laid out in article 34 of the Schengen Visa Code:

1.            A visa shall be annulled where it becomes evident that the conditions for issuing it were not met at the time when it was issued, in particular if there are serious grounds for believing that the visa was fraudulently obtained. A visa shall in principle be annulled by the competent authorities of the Member State which issued it. A visa may be annulled by the competent authorities of another Member State, in which case the authorities of the Member State that issued the visa shall be informed of such annulment.

2.            A visa shall be revoked where it becomes evident that the conditions for issuing it are no longer met. A visa shall in principle be revoked by the competent authorities of the Member State which issued it. A visa may be revoked by the competent authorities of another Member State, in which case the authorities of the Member State that issued the visa shall be informed of such revocation.

Annulment is more serious than a mere revocation because it’s a black mark on your record. It implies that you lied to obtain a visa.

In practice, if you show up somewhere unexpected, say in Germany with a visa for Greece, you might get a few questions about that. If you have a good explanation and all the necessary documents, there is no reason you would be denied entry and/or your visa revoked but if the border guards think you lied to get a visa and you always intended to come to Germany, they can annul it and send you back.

So, the answer is not a clear-cut “your visa will become invalid if you change your hotel” but it’s not “this visa is valid for anything anywhere within the Schengen area” either. Border guards have to decide whether it looks like you obtained your visa fraudulently and they do have the power to invalidate it if they think that’s the case.

In your case, you are still going to typical tourist destinations, you would be entering through the same country as originally planned and the itinerary sounds very similar to the one you submitted when applying to the visa so I would not expect any problem. In all likelihood, the border guards in Prague won’t even ask you anything beyond routine questions. If you are leaving in time, the border guards in France obviously have no reason to be concerned either.
